FAQ

What is Last Gnome Location?

Last Gnome Location (lastgnomelocation.com) is a web app that allows users to track and interact with small 4" tall gnomes placed in various locations. Users can view gnome locations on a map and participate in moving them to new places.

How do I access the Last Gnome Location app?

You can access Last Gnome Location through any web browser at lastgnomelocation.com. It's also a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you can add it to your home screen on both iPhone and Android devices for easy access.

How do I register for an account?

To register, you need to provide an email address, choose a username, and create a password. After submitting this information, you'll receive an email with a link to activate your account. Click the link to complete the registration process.

How does the map feature work?

The map shows the locations of all gnomes using markers. Each gnome has its own page, which displays a map of the gnome's travel path. The main map page shows all gnomes' current locations. You can also get directions to a gnome's location using Google Maps.

How accurate are the gnome locations on the map?

The app uses longitude and latitude coordinates, which should place the gnome within approximately 20 feet of its actual location.

How do I interact with a gnome when I find one?

When you find a gnome, you can tap your phone to the NFC tag on its underside. This will take you to the gnome's page in the app, where you can see its history and, if you choose, set a new location for it.

What if my phone doesn't support NFC?

Most modern smartphones that support Apple Pay or Google Pay should be compatible with the NFC tags. If you're unsure, check your phone's specifications or try the feature when you find a gnome.

How do I set a new location for a gnome?

After tapping the NFC tag, you'll be taken to the gnome's page. If you have the correct permissions (verified by tapping the NFC tag), you'll see a "Set Location" button. Use this to update the gnome's location on the map.

Is there a limit to how often I can move a gnome?

Yes, gnomes can only be moved to a new location once per day. The app won't allow location updates more frequently than that.

What happens if I find a gnome but don't want to move it?

That's perfectly fine! You can simply enjoy finding the gnome without moving it. The app is called "Last Gnome Location" for a reason - it only tracks where gnomes were last seen or placed.

What should I do if I can't find a gnome at its last known location?

If you can't find a gnome at its last known location, you can report it as missing through the app. This helps keep the game fair and fun for everyone.

Are there any rules about where I can place gnomes?

While there are no strict rules, we encourage users to place gnomes in public, accessible locations. The initial gnomes are placed in locations like state parks or hiking trails. Use your best judgment to keep the game enjoyable and safe for all participants.

How does Last Gnome Location handle user privacy?

The app only tracks user locations when they choose to find or move a gnome. We don't continuously track user locations or share this information with other users. Your email and password are kept secure and are only used for account access.

Can I purchase my own gnome to add to the game?

Yes! Click here to purchase a gnome. We will mail it to you so that you can set the initial location for that gnome in the app.

What if I accidentally set a gnome's location at an address I don't want people to find online?

You can send an email to info@lastgnomelocation.com to request removal of a location. Please be thoughtful about where you are placing the gnomes and use common sense. The map is public to anyone who uses the app.
